Thumbnail Downloader
Grab the cover, full size.

Paste a video link. YouTube thumbnails come down in every size up to full HD, TikTok gives you its cover image, and for Instagram, Facebook and X you can capture any frame of the video itself — full quality, as a PNG.

Works with youtube.com, youtu.be, TikTok, Instagram, Facebook and X links.

About the Thumbnail Downloader

Beyond's Thumbnail Downloader pulls the cover image of a video at the highest quality the platform holds. For YouTube that means up to 1280×720 HD — every size YouTube stores is offered, and the tool tells you honestly when a video has no HD thumbnail instead of dressing up a small one. Creators use it to study what works, recover their own thumbnails after losing the originals, and build media kits.

TikTok links return the posted cover plus the original full-size cover. Instagram, Facebook and X keep no public thumbnail file, so for those the tool loads the video through Beyond's engine and lets you capture any frame at the video's full resolution — often better than a set thumbnail, because you choose the exact moment.

How it works

  1. Paste the video link. Copy the link from YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, Facebook or X and paste it in.
  2. Pick your image. Choose the size you need from the results — for YouTube, HD (1280×720) is listed first when it exists.
  3. For Instagram, Facebook and X. Let the video load, scrub to the perfect moment and tap Capture to save that frame as a PNG.
  4. Save it. Tap Save on any result and the image downloads straight to your device.

Why Beyond

  • Real HD: actual 1280×720 YouTube thumbnails, with honest smaller-size fallbacks.
  • TikTok covers in original quality, not screenshots of covers.
  • Frame capture for the platforms that lock their thumbnails away.

Frequently asked questions

What is the highest YouTube thumbnail resolution?+

1280×720 (called maxres). If the creator uploaded a full HD thumbnail, that size is available; older or low-resolution uploads may top out at 640×480 or 480×360, and Beyond tells you when the HD one does not exist.

Why is the HD thumbnail missing for some videos?+

The creator never uploaded a high-resolution thumbnail, or the video predates HD thumbnails. YouTube then only generates the smaller sizes — grab the biggest one available.

Can I get thumbnails from TikTok, Instagram, Facebook and X?+

TikTok: yes — paste the link and download the cover image. Instagram, Facebook and X do not publish a separate thumbnail file, so Beyond loads the video through its engine and lets you capture any frame in the video's full resolution as a PNG.

Can I reuse someone else's thumbnail?+

Thumbnails belong to their creators. Download your own freely; for other people's, use them for reference and inspiration, or get the creator's permission before reusing.

Is this thumbnail downloader free?+

Yes — completely free, no sign-up.

Why do some YouTube videos only show small thumbnails?+

If the creator uploaded a low-resolution thumbnail — or the video is old — YouTube simply never generated an HD version. The biggest size listed is genuinely the biggest that exists.

Can I download a thumbnail from a private video?+

No. Thumbnails are only available for public videos, and frame capture needs the video itself to be publicly reachable.
